Designed by Jocelyn Sass SIZE: 91/2" x 11" {24.1 cm x 27.9 cm} not including hanger. MATERIALS: *Worsted-weight yarn - 3 oz. {85 g} green, 1/2 oz. {14 g} black and small amount gold; 30" {76.2 cm} green/white shamrock 3/4" {19 mm} ribbon; 1" x 6!/2" {2.5 cm x 16.5 cm) wooden "welcome" cutout sign; *acrylic paint - small amount each green and white; small paintbrush; 1 yd. (1 m} 19-gauge wire; pencil; 1/2 sheet stiff plastic canvas; *craft glue or hot glue gun; G {4 mm} crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. GAUGE: 4 sc = 1" {2.5 cm}; 4 sc rows = 1" {2.5 cm}. SKILL LEVEL: Average HAT SIDE (make 2) Row 1: Starting at bottom, with green, ch 39, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn (38 sc). Rows 2-8: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, do not turn, fasten off. Row 9: Skip first 7 sts, join black with sc in next st, sc in next 23 sts leaving remaining sts unworked, turn (24 sc). Rows 10-14: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off. Row 15: Join green with sc in first st, sc in same st, sc in each st across with 2 sc in last st, turn (26). Rows 16-18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Rows 19-35: Repeat rows 15-18, ending with row 15 and 36 sts in last row. Rnd 36: Working around outer edge, ch 1, sc in each st and in end of each row around with 2 sc in each corner changing colors (see illustration) as needed to match piece, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off. Using one Hat Side as pattern, cut one piece from plastic canvas slightly smaller. Holding Hat Sides wrong sides together with plastic canvas between, matching sts, working through both thicknesses in back lps only, join green with sl st in any green st, sl st in each st around changing colors as needed to match, join with sl st in first sl st, fasten off. BUCKLE NOTE: Front of sts are wrong side of work. With gold, ch 34, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 3 sc in first ch, sc in next 6 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 9 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 6 c:hs, 3 sc in next ch, sc: in last 9 chs, join with sl st in first sc leaving long end for sewing, fasten off. Sew Buckle to front of Hat centered over rows 7-16. FINISHING 1: Paint wooden "welcome" sign with white paint; let dry. Paint green dots on sign as desired; let dry. Glue sign over rows 23-31 on center front of Hat. 2: For hanger, wrap wire around pencil 4 times at random. Insert 4" {10.2 cm} of one end from back to front through one top corner of Hat, twist once to secure. Wrap remainder of end around pencil. Repeat on opposite end. 3: Tie ribbon into a bow around wire on one corner of Hat.

Each Strip is 41/2" wide x 62" long. BASIC STITCHES Ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc AFGHAN Strip (make 9) Rnd 1: With It. green, ch 8, sl st in fifth ch from hook (picot made), (ch 10, sl st in fifth ch from hook-picot made) 41 times; working on opposite side of starting ch, sl st in ch at bottom of next picot (end ch sp made), (ch 10, sl st in fifth ch from hook-picot made, sl st in ch at bottom of next picot) across, ch 2, join with sl st in first ch of ch8. Fasten off. (80 picots, 78 ch-5 sps, 2 end ch sps made) Rnd 2: For flowers, join white with sc in first picot, (ch 3, sc in same picot) 5 times, *ch 1, sc in center ch of next ch-5 sp, ch 1, sc in next picot, (ch 3, sc in same picot) 5 times; repeat from * across to end ch sp, ch 1; working in front of next end ch sp, sc in next picot; repeat between " working in front of last end ch sp. join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Rnd 3: Join lt. green with sl st in any end ch sp on rnd before last, ch 3 (counts as dc), (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same ch sp; *(working behind flowers, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp on last rnd, sc in next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp) across to end ch sp, ch 3*, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next end ch sp on rnd before last; repeat between *, join with sl st in top of first ch-3. Rnd 4: Sl st in next 2 sts, (sl st, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch sp (corner made), *dc in center st of next 3-dc group, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch sp (comer made), 5 dc in each ch sp across to corner*, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch sp (corner made); repeat between ", join. Fasten off. Rnd 7: Join white with sc in both Ips of center st of any 3-sc group at corner, 2 sc in same st, sc in back lp of each st around with 3 sc in both Ips of center st of each 3-sc group at corner, join. Fasten off. Hold wrong sides of two Strips together, working through both thicknesses and in back lps, with white, sl st long edges together. Repeat with remaining Strips. •
